OBF SENSITIZE PUBLIC ON FLOOD PREPAREDNESS AND MITIGATION METHOD
Floods are among the most devastating natural disasters in the world, claiming more lives and causing more property damage than any other natural phenomena.
There’s no gain saying that flood affects and displaces more people than any other disaster with more damage to properties.
At least 20 per cent of the population is at risk from one form of flooding or another and it disaster has been perilous to people, communities and institutions.
Obviously Flooding has not only left several people homeless, destroyed properties and disrupted business activities but also threatening to expose residents to an impending cholera, diarrhea, malaria, skin infections and other water-borne diseases epidemic.
Hence, in other to suggest and educate people on ways to prevent and mitigate flood disaster in a sustainable way, Oluseyi Bisiriyu Foundation on Thursday 12th of August carried out a campaign/awareness on environmental maintenance with much focus on flooding, Erosion and Diseases.
During this campaign, members of the campaign team educate the populace on good waste management habit and the opportunity it gives to the environment and the society at large.
As an instrument of reminder, the foundation campaign team made use of flyers and stickers during the campaign with much response from the public.
The attention given to the team by the public was a reflection that the campaign will generate an attitudinal change in them.
This was evidence when some members of the public came to the team to point out some places and people who usually dispose refuse and waste in drainages.
Our team met with this people and further educate them on the opportunity of proper waste management habit and the costly danger of flooding.
